Description. Bill is shorter and thicker; upperparts background color is darker (more blackish-brown); the white terminal band on tail feathers is narrower than in macrorhynchos.

Distribution. Breeds in Tien Shan and Dzhungarskiy Alatau. On wanderings very rare occurs in foothills; one recorded in Almaty 15 October 1960.
